Aussie EM Training vs US EM Training
So having come back to Australia after some time spying on EM training in sunny California, I realised that it's actually not that different. The healthcare systems are obviously quite different, but the training is fairly similar, aside from a couple of things - the US training to become board certified is sooooooooo much shorter than both Australia, and the UK. Penetrating trauma is far more common too, gunshots etc. Everything else, from training courses, shift patterns / rosters / education & on floor teaching are fairly similar, when comparing like for like (I'm comparing US tertiary hospital to Oz tertiary hospital).

any thoughts on how both size up against UK training?
Andy, having left the UK as a fairly disgruntled trainee in 2005, I'm not really sure how the current setup stacks up. There's no doubt in my mind that the 4 hour rule hurt trainees, limiting their exposure somewhat. I don't really know how things are now, especially in the post MMC era...
